RE: Typical overnight cost

We are fairly new full-timers, but our budget worked out for us last year; We budget $300 for camping and $300 for diesel fuel for our motorhome monthly. These amounts are interchangeable because if we are moving much, we spend more time dry camping or at Passport America Parks. If we want to stay longer in an area, we spend $10 a night for a Resort Parks America park (Coast to Coast costs about the same.) Or we find a monthly rate at a less fancy park. It also helps to have a Golden Age Pass to the National Parks because a Pass provides half price camping on all federal lands. (usually no hookups, but beautiful places.) We allow the availability of membership parks to partly determine our route and then we fill in the gaps by car. In just over a year on this budget we traveled from Ohio to Chesapeake Bay to Florida, Texas, California, Washington, Montana, Ohio, Tennessee and now we are in Texas spending $264/month in the RGV and no diesel for three months. The most we ever spent was $25 a night on the beach at San Diego which was definitely worth it. You can do it too, if you purchase Passport America and a membership like RPI or CtoC. Buy it "used", not at the park!

RE: Readers: Anybody Tried the Amazon Kindle?

Hi Toni! It is good to hear you are finally on the launch pad. We are both avid readers and have found it even easier to get our hands on books than it was in our former life. New authors and new subjects are found at each new RV park we visit. If you prefer to boondock or visit state or national parks, there won't be much availability at those. Thrift stores usually price books lower than used bookstores do. Local libraries are usually willing to issue cards. Sometimes we must provide an example of mail we have received at the campground address we are using, so we often wait for our first mail forwarding and take the envelope with us.
